Not just a simple marriage record
with two names and a date, but in many entries the parents of the bride and the
groom are given. Also, death dates and birth dates are included in many of
the records. In some instances the minister's name, the surety, and
witnesses are named. If the individual had multiple spouses, all are named. The
location of the marriage and the source for the data is included in most of the
entries.
These records were compiled by
Dorothy Ford Wulfeck after the publication of her first volume of Virginia
marriages, Marriages of Some Virginia Residents, 1606-1800. Her
death prevented the information from being published until one of her assistants
found them in boxes of loose papers and arranged to have them printed and
published.
Approximately 2,400 names are referenced
in this book, arranged in alphabetical order. There is also an index for names
of other than the bride and groom.
