This book is a history of the Whittelsey-Whittlesey family from its earliest known members and a compiled genealogy of the descendants of John Whittelsey, born 1623 near Whittlesea in Cambridgeshire, England.  He immigrated to New England with the Lords Say and Seal Company in 1635.  In the early records of Boston and Saybrook the name is written in many forms. The earliest in Boston letters, dated 1636, it is written as John Whitele, other places as Whitly, Whitley, Whitsly, Whitsley, Whitelsey, Witsley, Whichley, Witeslev, Whichelsey, and Witese.  The Whittelseys are mentioned as among the inhabitants of Middlesex county in 1648.  He married Ruth Dudley and they had eleven children.  John Whittelsey died in 1704 and Ruth died in 1714.
