Elder John White was among the first settlers and founders of Cambridge, in Massachusetts; Hartford in Connecticut; and Hadley in Massachusetts.  The date of his birth is not known but estimated to be between 1595 and 1605.  He arrived at Boston aboard the ship Lyon in September, 1632.  He was a member of the congregation of Rev. Thomas Hooker.  He died sometime between December, 1684 and January, 1685.  The given name of his wife was Mary, but the family name is not known.  She preceded him in death as she is not mentioned in his will.  Six of their children survived to adulthood; four sons and two daughters.  It is their descendants that are detailed in this book.
