The name Wadham appears both in England and in this country with the spelling Waddom, Wadom, Waddam, and Wadam.  The "s" seems to have been added to the name about the beginning of the fourth generation in America, but it has not been retained by all the family, several of whom use the form Wadham.  One branch spells the name Wadams.  Even those who have more recently come from England use both spellings.

JOHN WADHAM came from Somersetshire, England, and settled in Wethersfield, Connecticut, between the years 1645 and 1650.  It is said, but on what authority it is not known, that, after a short residence in this country, he returned to England, and that while there he married. His wife is said to have been of French descent. Her baptismal name was Susannah, but of her family name no trace has, up to the present time [1913], been found.
