This volume gives the results of the first attempt to compile and publish a complete genealogy of all the Stone descendants of Dea. Gregory1 Stone, a founder of New England in 1635; and it also gives the results of extended research in England for his ancestry.  During the last half century, brief genealogies (mostly mere vital statistics) have been printed, in over a score of New England town histories, concerning various branches of the descendants of Dea. Gregory1 Stone; and three small pamphlets on different branches of descendants have been compiled and published.

This genealogy has been produced under the auspices of the Stone Family Association, which was organized in Boston in 1897 with one hundred and twenty members, on the initiative of the late Sarah Adaline (Johnson) Stone, second wife of the late John Livingston10 Stone of Marlborough, Mass.

Gregory Stone of the title of this book was baptized in England in 1592 and emigrated to New England in 1635.  Along with his older brother Simon, they were the progenitors of one of the largest family of Stone descendants in America.  The genealogy of their ancestors as well as thousands of their descendants comprise the content of this book.
