This book details the descendants of Edward Small who first appears in the records of Pascattaway (later named Kittery), Maine as early as 1640.  He immigrated to New England with his eldest son, Francis Small, as early as 1634 or 1635.  It is probable that his wife never made the trip to the "New World", but remained or died in England.  In addition to Francis he had two other sons: Edmond and William, and one daughter, Mary, who grew to adulthood.

The surnames of the allied families are: Heard, Hatch, Sawyer, McKenney, Mitchell, Cooke, Jenney, Cushman, Allerton, Andrews, Stetson, Pratt, Chandler, and Roberts.
