Timothy Rockwood, born in Medway, Mass. July 5, 1727; died in Holliston, Mass. February 21, 1806. Five generations of his direct descendants are presented in this book.
SAMUEL ROCKWOOD, the father of TIMOTHY ROCKWOOD, whose genealogy is the subject of this book, was born in Medfield, Mass., April 15th, 1695, and died in Medway, Jan'y 11th, 1754.
The Rockwoods, during the last part of the Sixteenth and the first of the Seventeenth Centuries, were called Rockets. Their names were pronounced Rocket and written Rocket in the old records. This Samuel was born a Rocket, lived a Rocket, but died a Rockwood. There is no evidence, however, that their own signatures were ever written any other way than Rockwood.
