The earliest record of the name occurs in England when Richard Rawson died there in 1543.  Edward Rawson, the Secretary of the Massachusetts Bay Colony was the first to bear the name in New England.  Edward was born in 1615 and married Rachael Perne, daughter of Thomas Perne.  They came to Massachusetts in 1636 or 1637 and settled in the town of Newbury.  He held a variety of civic offices, the most prominent of which was Secretary of the Colony to which he was first elected in 1650.  He and Rachael had twelve children, ten of which were born in Massachusetts, two remained in England.   Of the remainder, six were daughters and four were sons.  It is the children of these individuals that are detailed in this book.  Nine generations are accounted for.
