This book is concerned with the descendants of James and Captain Richard Olmsted of Hartford and Norwalk, Conn. from 1632 to 1912.  James was baptized in England in 1580.  He married, also in England, Joyce Cornish, who died in England in 1621. James immigrated to New England in 1632. Two sons, two nephews and a niece travelled with him. They settled first at Mount Wollaston, now Quincy, in Massachusetts.  He removed in 1636 to become one of the founders of Hartford in the Connecticut Colony.

Richard Olmsted was baptized in England in 1612 and came to New England with his uncle James (above) in 1632.  He also migrated to Hartford in 1636 and removed to Norwalk in 1650 or 1651.  Also mentioned in this book are the second nephew, Dr. John Olmsted, who died without children, and their sister, Rebecca Olmsted who married Thomas Newell.
