A history of the name in Scotland and then in Ireland is presented in these books. The original immigrant to New England was John McKinstry who was born in 1677. He arrived in Boston in 1718. He preached in Sutton, Mass. for a period of eight years before deciding to move to New York in 1728. On the journey southward his wife became ill and they stopped in East Windsor for her to rest and recuperate. While waiting there he was offered the position of Minister in the parish of Ellington, next to East Windsor. They remained there for 16 years. Here he died in 1754.
He had seven children and it is the descendants of these individuals that make up the data contained in these books.
