From Hampshire, England -- some say Dorset and some Lancashire -- came John Kingsley to Boston. The exact date of his coming is not known. He was one of the original purchasers of Taunton, but the first information we have of his habitation in New England is in 1635, when he was settled in Dorchester. He had a share in the great lots there in 1646. He afterwards removed to Rehoboth, near Taunton, where he died. The date of death has been given as 1679, upon what evidence does not appear, but he is known to have been living there as late as 1672. It is not certainly known whom he married, nor can we feel at all sure that the following list of his children is a complete one:
