He was a ship captain and was so engaged for more than 50 years. He settled in Middletown, Conn., about 1654, or before. Nine generations and 3,867 names are recorded in this book.

This book details the descendants of James Hamlin, Jr. who settled in Barnstable, Massachusetts in 1639. His father, also named James was the original immigrant of this family. James, Sr. had sons James, Bartholomew, John, Eleazer and Israel. All had families with many descendants. Records in England show that James, Jr. was baptized in 1636. He traveled with his father and arrived in New England in the spring of 1639. He married Mary Dunham in Barnstable in 1662.
