Book #1, "The Genealogy of the Guild-Guile-Gile Family" contains the genealogies of John Guild of Dedham, Massachusetts and Samuel Guile of Haverhill, Massachusetts.

John Guild was born in England about 1616 and immigrated to New England in 1636 with his brother Samuel, and their sister Ann. John married in 1645, Elizabeth Crooke of Roxbury.  Elizabeth died in 1669 and John died in 1682.  They had seven children, all born in Dedham.  It is the descendants of the children who are detailed in the first part of this book; down to the ninth generation.

Samuel Guile, the brother of John Guild (above), resided first at Newbury and later at Haverhill.  He was married to Judith Davis in 1647.  They also had seven children, four sons and three daughters.  It is the descendants of three of these sons, to the ninth generation, who are recounted in this section of the book.  Samuel's name spelled in various documents as Gill, Gild, and Guild.  He died in 1683.

There is also a 2-page biographical sketch of Rev. William Guild, D.D., of Aberdeen, Scotland and others of the name residing in Scotland.

In a chapter titled "Miscellaneous" numerous other individuals with the name Guild, or something similar, not already mentioned in the genealogies of John and Samuel, are discussed.

Book #2, titled "Genealogy of the Descendants of John Guild of Dedham, Massachusetts", is just that.  First published twenty years prior to book #1, the compiler lists 284+ descendants of John and Elizabeth (Crooke) Guild to the eighth generation.
