The Gooderes came originally from Cumberland, England, close to the Scotch border, settled at Monken Hadley and remained connected with it for two or three centuries. They afterward became widely scattered throughout the country under the names Goodere, Goodier, Goodair, Goodyer, Goodyere, Goodyeere, Goodyeare and Goodyear. This book details the descendants of Stephen Goodyear who arrived in New England in 1636. He was a member of the congregation of Rev. John Davenport that came to the new world to escape religious persecution. They settled in a region called Quinnipiac, later renamed New Haven in the Connecticut Colony. He had seven children; four daughters and three sons. He died in London while on a business trip to England in 1658.
