"John French1, progenitor of the Family
commemorated in this Memorial, was born in England about 1612; came to this
country and resided for a short time in Dorchester. As early as 1640, he
removed to Braintree; for in that year, Feb. 24, 1639-40, he had a grant from
the town of Boston for forty acres of land in that place for five persons in his
family. His first wife was Grace _____, who was the mother of all his
children." The line is carried down to the seventh generation.

family later removed to Billerica. The following allied families are also
given mention: Ingalls, Seaward, Queal, Beyer, Cooper, Englebeck, Armitage, and
