This publication contains detailed abstracts of all 352 documents that were recorded in Franklin County Will Book No. 1, a large will book that covers instruments recorded between the years 1786 - 1812. (There are documents that were written considerably earlier, but recorded between 1786 and 1812, such as the will of George Boyd from 1779). In addition to wills, this will book includes bonds, inquests, inventories, accounts, renouncements of wills, and estate divisions. About 2500 individuals are mentioned.
The will book is fairly well preserved, except that roughly the first 16 pages are very faded, and that the handwriting tends to have poorly formed letters. Consequently, throughout, it was difficult to distinguish between the surnames Sink/Link, Plyburn/Blyburn, Hook/Hoole, Grunmet/Grimmet. Also, there were some signatures that were gibberish; these involved people with German names, and may have been the result of German script being indecipherable to the county officials who transcribed documents into the will book.
