In 1661, Tristram Dodge removed himself and his four sons from
Taunton, Mass. to Block Island (New Shoreham), Rhode Island and thus they became
one of the first fifteen families to settle in that new colony. His four
sons were named Israel, John, William, and Tristram, Junior.
Israel removed to the North Parish of New London (now Montville),
Connecticut, where he died in 1745. The other sons and children remained
on Block Island and had large families with many descendants.
