This line of Davis families is descended from the Third Royal Tribe of Wales, headed by Cynrig Efell, Lord of Eglewepegle, twin son of Madog ab Maredudd, and great-grandson of Bleddyn ap Synim, Prince of Powis. Cynrig assumed the name of Davis for a patronymic and married Maude, daughter of Llewellyn ap Morgan of Rydodin. James Davis, the original immigrant to America, arrived at the Virginia Colony aboard the ship "George" in 1617.
Future generations settled mainly in Isle of Wight Co., Virginia; Pasquotank Co., North Carolina, Carteret Co., NC; as well as Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, and other places.
