CONCORD is one of the oldest of our New England towns, having been settled in 1635. It has been termed with truth one of the "seed towns." The descendants of the- original settlers are scattered far and wide over the whole country, and it is probable that the number of such descendants living outside of the town far exceeds the number of those living in it at the present time. Its vital records are, therefore, of peculiar value to students of family genealogy, and especially so because they were kept with unusual carefulness from the very beginning of the settlement, and are much more nearly complete than those of most of our old towns.
In accordance with a vote of the town at its annual meeting in 1891, a limited edition of these records has been printed and is now offered for sale. The book has been carefully edited, and its lists, as printed, are intended to be an actual transcript of the original records, which have been followed in every particular of arrangement, spelling, abbreviations, and the like. Where duplicate records appear in the books of the county and those of the town, such duplicates have been carefully compared, and any discrepancies between them have been stated in footnotes. The Records of the First Parish have also been consulted, and such information as could be gleaned from this source has been added. To the record of deaths in the town and parish books have been added such .other. as do not appear in those books but are found on the old gravestones.
Every birth, marriage, or death that is in any way a part of the records of the Town of Concord, down to the close of the year 1850, is believed to be included in the printed volume.
