Colchester was established in 1698 and settled soon after that by, among others, Michaell Taintor, who was for many years, the town clerk. Charles M. Taintor extracted from the town and other records all of the vital records and many other of the more important deeds, etc. from the settlement of the town to as late as 1787 (most records are much earlier). These he published in 1864 in a small volume, which is now exceedingly rare and never before reproduced.

This book is a reprint of the original 1864 book.
