William Cheney, born c. 1604, died 30 June, 1667, married Margaret (_____) in England about 1625.  His name appears in the Roxbury town records as early as 1639, but the exact date of his arrival was not recorded. Seven children were known to have been born to them: Ellen, Margaret, Thomas, William, John, Mehitable, and Joseph.

John Cheney of Roxbury and later Newbury, was born 30 June 1605 in Lambourne, Berkshire, England. He married Martha SMITHE, 3 March 1630/31 in Lawford, co. Essex, England. They had four children born in England, and six more born in Roxbury and Newbury: Mary, Martha, John, Daniel, Sarah, Peter, Lydia, Hannah, Nathaniel and Elizabeth. He arrived in New England in 1635, was in Roxbury briefly, then settled permanently in Newbury.  He died 28 July 1666. His wife Martha died in 1684.

William and John were most likely brothers, however no proof of such relationship has been found to date.
