"Among those who came to New England soon after the great tide of immigration began to set in this direction, was Henry Burt, the ancestor of all those who bear that family name..." His name does not appear in the records before the year 1638, however, the date of his arrival and his settlement in Springfield has not been learned. It is known that he was in Roxbury in that year. It is not stated when he moved to Springfield, but it is known that he resided there for a period of at least 22 years. He was made Freeman of Springfield on 13 d. 2 Mo. 1648 [April 13th]. He died in Springfield April 30, 1662 without leaving a will. His wife of 28 years, Ulalia Burt, died August 29, 1690 and she left a will which is printed in this book.
