The progenitor was Richard Bidwell, who settled in Windsor, Conn., and died there 25 December 1647. He was called Goodman Bidwell in the earliest records. He may have been the father of as many as six children. Of the six, son John Bidwell left the biggest footprint and it is his descendants that are mainly discussed in this book. He was settled in Hartford, Conn. by 1639. There he married Sarah Wilcox and they had seven children. John Bidwell died there in 1687.
