The earliest identified ancestor is Thomas White of Merriot and Whitcombe in the Parish of Martock, Somersetshire, in 1524. The immigrant ancestor and progenitor of the American line is John White of Wenham and Lancaster, Massachusetts. The first mention of his name is in the records of Lancaster, Mass. in 1653. He died there in 1673.
Included in this book is a lengthy report on the pedigree and genealogy of John Prescott, the founder of Lancaster, Mass. It begins with Cerdic (or Cherdic) in 495, and continued for 20+ generations down to John Prescott, who was born in Standish Parish, Lancashire, in about 1604. He married in Yorkshire in 1629, Mary Gawkroger. They went to Barbados first and then to New England in 1640.
