Numerous early settlers of New England with the surname ALLEN are discussed in varying degrees of detail, including Ethan Allen of Vermont and Revolutionary War fame.

Included with great detail are the descendants of Samuel Allen, the first Allen to arrive in the New World and who settled at Braintree, Mass.  His second wife was Margaret Lamb, the name of the first being known only as "Ann".

The first WITTERs to arrive were Joseph and his brother Ebenezer, who were born in Scotland.  Only the descendants of Ebenezer are listed.  He settled in Preston, New London County, Connecticut.  He died there in 1712, age 44 years.  His wife, Dorothy, last name unknown, died in 1750, age 84 years.
