The progenitor of the Abbey family in New England was John Abbey, who arrived at Boston in 1634.  He settled in Wenham, Mass. and his sons migrated to Windham, Conn., where they resided.  Captain Thomas Abbey was born in 1731 and married in 1749, Penelope Terry.  He died in 1811 after serving in the military at various positions during the Revolution.  Numerous descendants of Thomas and Penelope are detailed in biographical sketches.  And, several allied families through marriage are mentioned.
