Thomas Powell, the progenitor of the Powells on Long Island, New York, was born in 1641. His ancestry is not included in this book. The first mention of his name appears in the records in 1663. At age 22 he was appointed to be a Trustee of the Freeholders of the Town of Huntington. The name of his first wife is not known. He married second Elizabeth Phillips of Jericho, L.I., in 1690. He had eight children by his first wife, and six more with Elizabeth.
