From the book's introduction: "... a thorough examination of Colonial history, has very fully established the be1ief that David Johnson, of Leominster, was a descendant of Captain Edward Johnson, who came from England in the fleet with Governor Winthrop in 1630. He was of HernhilI, a parish near Canterbury, and owned an estate there. He settled in Charlestown, Mass., in 1637, and afterwards removed to Woburn, and was one of the founders of the church in that place. He was a very zealous Puritan, as his writings show, for he wrote the history entitled, "Wonder Working Providences of Zion's Saviour in New England."
